MANAUS AND THE AMAZON

The River Amazon is one of the greatest symbols of Brazil, rising in the snows of the Andes it travels for 6,750 km across South America before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. Just past Manaus one of the most spectacular river sights is the meeting of the 'black waters' of the River Negro with the 'white waters' of the River Solimoes, two of Amazon's 15,000 tributaries. The Amazon has remained virtually unchanged for the past 100 million years not being subject to the ravages of the ice ages. The rain forest is estimated to contain over one-tenth of the plant, animal and insect species of the planet.

You'll spend five days in the heart of the Amazon rain forest and visit the principal points of interest including the Opera House and The Meeting of the Waters. Manaus is a great introduction to the visitor who chooses to see the jungle at ease. From Manaus, it's a three hour boat trip to one of the most beautiful spots in the Amazon, The Ariau Jungle Tower. This lodge offers you one of the nicest accommodations in the Amazon, and suited for those who want to experience the jungle in comfort. Rooms, restaurant and bar are located on trees, offering panoramic views of the jungle. Activities include motorized canoe trips with multilingual guides, jungle hikes, piranha fishing, bird watching, and alligator spotting.

For the remainder of your vacation you are able to enjoy Rio de Janeiro, staying at a selected Copacabana beach front hotel. A full day city orientation tour is included for guests new to Rio and there is a wide choice of other optional tours.
