THE PANTANAL

The Pantanal - a vast nature reserve, is Brazil's major ecological attraction. Comprising over 140,000 sq. km of seasonally flooded swampland support an amazing density of tropical wildlife. Storks, egrets, ibises, roseate spoonbills, basking caiman, deer, otters, emus, boa constrictors and monkeys are all to be found in abundance.

Your lodge for five nights is a manifestation of ecotourism - low-impact tourism - intended to protect the environment while bringing economic benefits to local people. Guests are integrated into ranch life, driving cattle and milking cows, and can take the twice daily sightseeing trips, accompanied by knowledgeable guides and search for wildlife. Safaris by foot, horseback and off-road vehicle are also available.

Your four nights in Rio de Janeiro will be at a selected Copacabana beach front hotel. A full day city orientation tour is included for guests new to Rio and there is a wide choice of other optional tours. A comprehensive brochure describing Rio and its life is provided, and when you need help professional English speaking guides are available to assist with your plans.

Your free time in Rio gives you ample opportunity to become acquainted with the attractions of the city; enjoying the beaches, sidewalk cafes, discos, restaurants, saunas, etc. at your leisure.

Cost Includes: Hotel accommodation, breakfast and service charges and taxes; Full day sightseeing in Rio de Janeiro; a large variety of activities at the Lodge in the Pantanal. Transfers and baggage handling; and English-speaking guides. Airfares within Brazil are included. (International airfare not included.)
